At INSAID, we create accomplished and empowered Data Leaders. We groom our students to dominate the world of Data Science and AI and reshape their future. We value what our students bring to the table. We share their vision and support them during their journey and ensure that they carve a niche for themselves.
We’re proud to have tutored exceptional students all across India. Today, one such exceptional student, Soma Das stands in the spotlight.
Student Name: Soma Das
Current Organization: DS Digital
Batch: GCD – July 2019
Total years of experience: 3 years
Malvika: Hi Soma, before we begin, could you tell us more about your current work profile?
Soma: Currently, I am a Subject Matter Expert of Mathematics in an e-learning digital company, DS Digital. where mathematics content for school-going students is curated.
I produce content for this app. I am a post-graduate in mathematics. I started my journey as a Senior Content Developer at Extramarks Education.
In all, I have a total of 3 years of experience.
Malvika: What got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Soma: Actually, I have always loved the subject mathematics but in my industry, there is nothing beyond my profile of developing content.
I like challenges in my profession. So, I started looking for what else I can do to upgrade my profile and not losing the core love for my subject.
So, then I started researching about all those things, and then I came across the field of Data Science. Some of my friends are Data Analysts also.
First of all, this field is an application of what I have been learning throughout my school and college and moreover, it is challenging and somewhere down the line, it is the future.
Malvika: What are some of the initial challenges you faced when you got started on your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Soma: I belong from an academic background in terms of education also in terms of my work profile.
The major challenge was coding because I have never learned to code. Although I had C++ in my graduation, that was on a very basic level. Then I attended one of INSAID’s introductory sessions hosted by Suchit.
I had been researching about this field for about 3-4 months, I did not jump into this simply mesmerized by the sexiest job role of 2020 tag!
Suchit told us that the fear of coding is nothing if your concepts are clear, if you develop the mindset of a Data Scientist, then you’re good to go.
Nothing will be a hindrance to you. So then I thought of choosing the CDF training program. It all progressed quite efficiently. Now, I’ve upgraded my program also and I am in Term 5 right now.
Malvika: What all tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at INSAID so far?
Soma: I’ve been working majorly with Matplotlib and Scikit Learn.
So running all ML algorithms and Pandas and Data Visualization tools have been my focus lately.
Malvika: What is your advice to anyone wanting to start a career in Data Science?
Soma: I have realized that Data Science is a journey, not a destination.
Take every day bit-by-bit, write code each day, read an article every day, follow blogs, stay updated or anything else you can think of that takes you closer to being a Data Scientist.
Malvika: Thank you for your time, Soma. All the best for your future!
